August 5, 2012: A Day Sport Fishing and Sightseeing with Family in Juneau, Alaska...

August 5, 2012:

A day sport fishing and sightseeing
with family in Juneau, Alaska...

My husband and I heading out of Tee Harbor
with my 87-year-young father in law in his boat...

We decided to jig for fresh herring and got lucky,
here are the first four...

A bright and shiny live herring...

Live herring swimming in a bucket
of fresh saltwater (we ended up with about 20)...

The sun was definitely trying to burst
through the cloud layer,
although no such luck...

My first-ever halibut
I reeled in, it was a whoppin' 20 pounder...

A striking
Quillback Rockfish...

Black Oystercatchers
flying around the boat...

The F/V Spirit
hauling quite the load...

A Pigeon Guillemot
(not a duck, but an alcid - seabird related to puffins)
that breed on coasts and islands in southern Alaska...

Whale watchers
heading out...

The whale watchers should have stayed,
as we had a great view of a couple Killer Whales
right after they passed by...

Killer Whale (Orca) surfacing while feeding on herring
and I'm sure in search of MY King Salmon...

A great day out on the water with family,
time to head back to town...

On our drive to town
we luckily came upon this beautiful doe in
the Brotherhood Park wetlands...

We stopped by to view how many
Chum were heading up Lemon Creek to spawn
and they were in abundance...

Another great day in our lovely town of
Juneau, Alaska

March-April 2012: Scenic Southeast Alaska...

bustling with activity...

May 23, 2011: DAY 5: Our 2011 Spring King Salmon Derby Days in Juneau, Alaska...

May 23, 2011:

Our fifth day fishing the Spring king Salmon Derby the month of May in Juneau, Alaska from our skiff (Great fishing and viewing wildlife on a beautiful day)...

Early morning bite was on, and I was the first to land this nice King Salmon...

And, our luck continued - Max landed another shortly thereafter...

Max posing with his catch of the morning...

The herring were in abundance during most of the derby days in Tee Harbor, although not as much as we saw today...they were flipping everywere, so the Pigeon Guillemots (not a duck, but an alcid - seabird related to puffins) that breed on coasts and islands from southern Alaska were prevalent everywhere today...

These Pigeon Guillemots are so graceful...

An action shot of a Pigeon Guillemot taking flight...

The sunrise is just beginning...

This quaint cabin simply evokes serenity...

The sunrise from inside Tee Harbor on this beautiful morning...

I was lucky to capture such a close-up of a herring jumping out of the water inside Tee Harbor (you can actually see its eye ;)...

A stunning and beautiful morning...

Killer Whales approaching - there goes the fishing, and instead, bring on the whale watching...

Killer Whales feeding on schools of herring...

The Killer Whales were really thrashing about...

This huge Whale was attempting to get away from the Killer Whales, so it entered Tee Harbor and ended coming up just a few feet in front of our skiff...

Numerous Killer Whales having a feeding frenzy on herring...

Last sighting of Killer Whales and a Whale, so we're on our way to the beach at Tee Harbor to start the drive home...

We happened upon a young Black Bear along the roadside (it's still shedding its winter coat)...

The Black Bear decided to head back into the brush...

It decided to give us one last look...further on we saw two deer as well (nice huge bucks), although the photographs turned out too blurry due to many other vehicles passing by while attempting to capture pics of them...
