Backing out of the slip at Tee Harbor...
On step, heading for the derby grounds...
No luck catching an elusive fish today, although we had wildlife viewing opportunities ~ here is the first whale we encountered...
We later were lucky to view this mother whale and her young one ~ schools of herring were everywhere...
This 2012 derby has come to an end, and we now are looking forward to participating again next year...
The fishing gear is in the water, now it's time to sit back and have a cup of coffee and hopefully the fish will bite...
No fish biting here so we're off and running...
The fast ferry "M/V Fairweather"...
As usual, no shortage of whale watchers...
A uniquely beautiful boat...
Brother law Alan and his wife Nadine fishing next to us for a time...
A kayaker dropped his partner off to sport fish from the point of Aaron Island...
One impressive boat named "Persistence"...
It's a derby out there...
Stunning cloud formations off of Point Retreat...
Yay! I just reeled in my whoppin' unofficial 14.24 pound King Salmon (according to our digital scale) ~ Time to run it in to see if it's a placer in the derby...
We ran past this commercial boat appropriately named "Fog"...
Cruising around the point of Shelter Island we came upon this sport fisherman...
While entering Amalga Harbor to drop off my King Salmon, we came upon these people sport fishing for trout at the mouth of Peterson Creek...
A couple of kayakers were also entering Amalga Harbor...
We're idling the boat while waiting in line to tie up to deliver my fish to derby officials...
Well, my very nice King Salmon officially weighed 14.2 lbs., so my father in law's digital scale is right on ;)
We're exiting Amalga Harbor and heading to Tee Harbor to call it a day...
What a treat, a very huge whale decided to swim alongside our boat for a time...
The boat is tied up, and on the walk back to the vehicle we spotted many baby herring in shallow water along the shoreline of Tee Harbor (that's a good sign)...
The elderly Tee Harbor collie mascot resting on the shoreline ~ What a great day it has been...
