Late-August 2012:
Commercial power trolling for King Salmon and Coho in
the outside waters of Southeast Alaska...

Captain Max's nighttime view at the helm of the F/V Chelsey... |
Marine navigational charts are a must-have... |
Blue Shark are not a fishermen's friend by any means, as Captain Max has lost many half-eaten-salmon when they've shown up in instances such as this reigning havoc... |
Captain Max jumped in the pit and brought up the lines just in time, so no King Salmon or Coho were lost to that particular Blue Shark this time around... |
The thick, dense fog rolled in quite fast and so did the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) helicopter... |
Captain Max said the USCG helicopter hovered over the F/V Chelsey for some time before continuing on... |
The thick, dense fog bank finally started to break... |
Heavy storm conditions minutes away so the fleet quickly headed to safe harbor to ride out it out for the night... |
Headed to Hoonah to offload the catch, chow down on a nice steak dinner, and down a few Alaskan Amber... |
Thank you Scott for providing these photographs while you took in your first sightings of Hoonah... |
Hoonah Cold Storage... |
Cold Storage workers sorting troll caught salmon... |
Impossible to pass up this important establishment in Hoonah during a short stay while in port... |
On-step after unloading in Hoonah overnight, then heading back out to the ocean... |
Military pilots conducting extensive aerial maneuvers... |
Whales feeding along the sunny shoreline... |
More whales feeding offshore... |
Blue Moon rising, with a running light to the right on the commercial boat in the horizon - after a long day of fishing what a welcome sight... |
Whales feeding in dense fog... |
Captain Max of the F/V Chelsey entering Statter Harbor in Auke Bay just before the storm hit on outside waters... |
Time to get a good night's rest, unload fish, and take an additional couple of days R&R waiting for weather to improve before, hopefully, heading back to outside waters for a final trip in 2012... |
