July 28, 2012:
An amazing amount of Chum
(aka Dog Salmon; Market Name: Northern Keta)
swimming up Salmon Creek
to spawn in Juneau, Alaska ~ We did not, however,
see many Humpies
(aka Pink Salmon; Market Name: Pacific Royal Pink Salmon)...
These are rather large Chum Salmon swimming up the creek in just a couple of inches of water... |
A Black-Headed Gull heading down for its dive seeking Chum eggs... |
No shortage of Seagulls and Black-Headed Gulls all seeking to eat their fill... |
A Black-Headed Gull in dive-mode with its head underwater for Chum eggs... |
The same Black-Headed Gull resurfacing with a Chum egg... |
These Black-Headed Gulls are rather beautiful and fascinating to watch while in flight. |
